What Did I Observe?
On my first day, I was shocked to find that the school was divided into two sections, separated by gender, which was very different from the Philippines. The class sizes were also smaller, with 20-25 students per section, compared to the larger classes in the Philippines. Each classroom was equipped with air conditioning, adequate ventilation, well-lit environments, and sturdy chairs, ensuring the safety and comfort of the learners. The facilities were designed to support the students' learning needs and progress.

LEARNING MATERIALS
The source of the learning materials used by teachers in English class is books from Cambridge University Press, with which they have a partnership. These books are specifically created for Indonesian learners and contain various activities that cover macro skills. They are also translated into the students' native language to guide them in learning English.
Additionally, teachers use online applications, such as Canva, to create engaging presentations and assessments. These are typically displayed using a projector, which is common in private schools in Indonesia.
ASSESSMENT
English teachers at SMP UMP use a mix of authentic and traditional (pen-and-paper) assessments for their students. For each chapter in their workbook, the lessons foster essential macro skills that can benefit the students in the long run. The assessments given by the teachers are then evaluated with appropriate judgment, which helps determine the students' progress.
